PRESS RELEASE

Peter Jenkins in Ambitious WorldWalk4Aid Quest

Peter Jenkins aims to be 8th person to walk solo around the world in aid of Unicef and Cancer Research UK – sponsors onboard but more needed!

London, 10 July 2014 – Peter Jenkins, a 53 year old from Swindon, Wiltshire, is planning to start an epic three and a half year walk around the world in aid of charity.  Only seven people in history have been verified as having walked around the world.  Peter Jenkins intends to be the eighth.

Jenkins goal is to walk six days a week with a target of 15 to 25 miles a day.  Currently, his plan is to start his journey by running the London Marathon on 26th April 2015 with his son Max, leaving London on May 1st 2015 to walk across Europe and arrive in Portugal in August or September 2015.  He will then travel by plane to Boston and walk to New York in time to run the New York marathon, again with his son Max, if all goes to plan.

The next leg of the journey will be to walk across North America to Los Angeles taking approximately eight to nine months.  From Los Angeles he will again travel by air to Sydney, Australia and walk from there to Perth taking approximately six to seven months.  After which he will travel by air to Singapore and walk through Southern Asia and the Middle East to Cairo, returning back through Europe and finally to London, taking in total, approximately another 22 months.  The anticipated finish will be around mid 2018.

Ideally Jenkins would like to finish the journey walking from the west coast of Ireland to Inverness, Scotland, finishing back in London sometime in 2018.  His exact route is still to be finalised but will total around 20,000+ miles, supported with official records through witnessed photographs and statements to validate the journey from every town and city he passes through.

Jenkins intends to keep in touch with his supporters along the way via Social Media.  He will post daily reports (as and when possible) with personal journals, photos, videos and interviews throughout his journey.

Jenkins says “My monetary objectives are clear and concise and are very simply, to raise £2,000,000 + for my chosen charities – Unicef and Cancer Research UK.  Since my mid-teens, I have had a strong desire to do something socially rewarding and worthwhile, to help in raising significant sums of money for charitable causes whilst inspiring others to follow their dreams.  Many people run marathons, go on sponsored walks etc.  I wanted to do something more extreme, something that would represent a significant challenge, both mentally and physically, and demand massive levels of will power and fortitude, along with sacrifice, which ultimately would inspire and benefit thousands of people.”

Listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the first person to walk around the world solo, American Steve Newman crossed 20 countries and walked some 15,000 miles during his four-year journey.  Jenkins recently discussed the walk with Newman to get a better understanding of what challenges lie ahead.  Like Steve, Peter intends to write a book, diarizing events and the journey and will be written in a way to inspire younger people.

Currently there are three main sponsors on board: REPL International, Berghaus and BlabFM.  More sponsorship is being sought from major companies to help provide essential equipment throughout the quest.
